Studio Tips

While we don't require that you sign up for classes in advance, we do highly recommend it!

You are always welcome to hang out with us at Tula. If this is your first visit, please arrive 15 minutes before your class so we can sign you up + show you around. Otherwise, please arrive at least 5 minutes before class.

We have water, tea, yoga mats & small towels available for you anytime, free of charge.

1. Where is Tula located?

Tula is located at 146 Ocean Street, South Portland, Maine in the Knightville neighborhood. Just over the bridge from downtown Portland. We have plenty of parking out front, street parking, and the municipal lot next door.

2. Do I need a membership to take a class?

No, although we do have some killer deals going on right now if you'd like to become a member. Drop-In passes are available for each of our classes.

3. How much do classes cost?

We offer Drop-In rates for all of our classes. Our passes offer varying discounts on classes. Find out more info here: Class Rates

4. What are the age requirements?

Our minimum age is 16. You must have a parent or guardian sign a New Student Waiver to attend. All of our students must sign the New Student Waiver.

5. What classes do you offer?

We offer a full schedule of cycle, barre, yoga, and aerial yoga classes. We also offer a variety of workshops and additional classes throughout the year. Check our schedule & instagram to keep up to date!

6. What if I have never taken this style of class before?

Welcome! All of our classes are designed for all levels of students, whether it's Day 1 or Year 20. Just let your instructor know this is your first time, and they'll carefully help you modify your class so that you're getting a perfect experience for your body. 

7. What is barre?

Barre is a 50 minute class, based on a combination of yoga, ballet, and pilates. Using a ballet barre as a prop, this class works to tone all the muscles in your body, one at a time. Using isolated muscle movements, you will tone the muscles in your body while listening to an up-beat, fun playlist with the happiest instructors you've ever met. "The shake is good".

8. What do I need to wear to barre class?

We recommend you wear comfortable exercise clothes. You are welcome to wear barre/pilates socks, however you are welcome to wear regular socks or just bare feet. 

9. What do I need to wear to cycle class?

We recommend you wear comfortable exercise clothes, preferably shorts or tighter pants so they don't get caught, and sneakers. Clip-in shoes are also an option. Don't forget to bring a water bottle! Water + towels are available. 

10. How does the sauna work?

We have a gorgeous infrared sauna here. As a member, you can use it before or after any class you attend. Just let us know when you sign up for a class & we'll get it hot for you!

11. What is an infrared sauna?

Our infrared sauna uses infrared heaters & the lowest electromagnetic radiation (EMR) and electrical field (EF) signatures of any infrared delivery system available for a full body detoxification. While you enjoy yourself your arteries dilate, improving blood flow throughout the body and relaxing tight or overworked muscles. The production of white blood cells is stimulated, strengthening the immune system. toxins are flushed out through the skin’s pores.

12. What do I need to take a sauna?

Let us know before you would like to take a sauna (it takes about 20 minutes to reach optimal heat). We do request you bring a clean towel for a seat. You're welcome to stay in your work-out clothes or hang in your bathing suit if you prefer. 

13. Where can I keep my stuff?

We have a coat rack for bags + coats. Feel free to leave your shoes there, or over by couch (or wherever you feel most at home). Each space also has small cubbies, feel free to bring your wallet/phone/keys/etc. into class with you.

14. Is Tula part of The Breathing Room?

No, Lily owns The Breathing Room, which will remain as-is happily ever after. Lily and Caitlin joined forces to bring barre and cycle, as well as a variety of new yoga classes to our South Portland 'hood. We welcome The Breathing Room students, however, we will have to add you to our system here at Tula Studios. 

15. Can I host an event at Tula?

Yes! We have created this space for our community to share their passions with each other. It's not limited to yoga/cycle/barre. We host dance recitals, art openings, workshops + anything else you're looking for a space bring people together. Contact us at hello@tulamaine.com

17. What happens if I can't make my class?

Please note you must early cancel at least 3 hours before class starts otherwise it will be considered late cancel and you will still be charged. Therefore, to not be charged for pre-reserved yoga classes, you must cancel out of the class within 180 minutes of the class start time. In the event that the class is full, your spot may be given to a waiting student if you are not present five minutes before the official class starting time.

18. What is the workshop cancelation policy?

Workshop purchases/reservations are non refundable, so we encourage you to please purchase wisely. NOTE that we are happy to refund your workshop fee if YOU are able to find someone to fill your space in the workshop. Many of our teachers travel to our space for workshops, so planning ahead is key. Endless thanks to you for understanding this no-exception policy.
